![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Zynga get's alot of hate for their farming games on facebook but it's the same concept they have you play mindlessly for hours making little progress but reward you at the same time, it drives you to continue. That's not to say that never the twain shall meet, and of course some older gamers like to score acheivements, and some younger gamers are just in it for the story, but as a generalisation, I don't think I'm being unfair to anyone.Īll I want is for gamers to respect eachother on the whole achievement debacle if you don't like them that's fine don't earn them but for people who do enjoy "Collecting" them don't hate on it as their not evil their a collection like collecting stamps.yes there are people who are obssessed with them but most just like legitally earning them and when you pump out $60 for a 10 hour game achievements are welcome. For the younger gamer, if they replay the game, it's to pick up what they missed out on first play through, hit the achievements, at a greater difficulty - which may involve doing the exact same things as the older gamer, but the motivations are different. The younger gamers seem to be more achievement-driven because it relates to acknowledgement from others, and the majority of the younger gamers are used to a more multi-player experience, be it MMO, deahmatch etc etc.įor the older gamer, the conclusion of the story is their accomplishment, and if they replay the game, it's to re-tell the story in a different way (diffferent character, class, decisions made etc). The older games seem to be more story-driven, as they're more used to the single-player experience. I know some guys who basically only got into gaming when the PS3/X-Box 360 came out, and they got into COD et, and they're well into their late thirties/early forties When I say "older" I'm not necessarily referring to age, but length of time someone has been playing games. Their completely optional people love or hate them the point is their here to stay as a large community are achievement hunters, it exercises the mind.like shows skill.like arcade high scores use to back in the day and adds longetivity to games providing a extra challenge most people would beat a game then walk around saying ya im the ♥♥♥♥ i beat such and such game.now you can't lie as games have difficulty achievements, you can't have a bunch of games with hard achievements their suppose to be enjoyable or challenging, problem is some devs make annoying ones.I prefer games where they interwtine with gameplay like kill x amount of monsters.though tedius to some its no different then games where you collect stuff i can admit achievements can be stupid but not every gamer is as good at games as others so you have to remember their not put there just for you their put there for kids and adults alike and im not against admitting their a addiction to some but if it gives people something to do why not.and i didnt mean to be hostile either theres just alot of people that don't understand the achievement - judging by your earlier post, I'm guessing we're around the same vintage, so this may make sense to you, or not.Īs far as i'm able to determine, most older gamers don't really care about achievements. ![]()
